Powering Tesla vehicles

Gigafactory launches to meet growing EV battery demand. Out in the Nevada desert at the Gigafactory, Tesla and Panasonic have partnered to mass-produce lithium-ion battery cells for energy storage products and Tesla’s Model 3 vehicle.


Panasonic’s lithium-ion battery factory within Tesla’s Gigafactory handles production of 2170-sized cylindrical battery cells. The high-performance 2170 cell was jointly designed and engineered by Tesla and Panasonic to offer the best performance at the lowest production cost in an optimal form factor for electric vehicles and energy products.
